BBMF Visitor’s Centre and East Kirkby.

Today was brilliant. Lincolnshire was very important during WW2. We had many RAF bases where people worked to defend Great Britain. At the Battle of Briain Memorial Flight Visitor’s Centre, the children learnt all about the Spitfire as well as the Hurricane and they even got to sit in a Dakota! We then travelled onto East Kirkby, where they had a guided tour of the Lancaster. They were so lucky to be able take a look inside. So much learning has taken place today. The next job is to use what we have learnt to write a recount of the day and then a report all about the different aeroplanes.

A great start to the term!

On Monday, Year 6 arrived at school dressed as WW2 evacuees. I was so impressed with all of the effort the children put into their very realistic costumes. Everyone also brought in a small box filled with precious items from home. We imagined what it would be like to be evacuated away from our families and friends. Then we wrote our first letters home from places such as Somerset and Sussex. Here are some of our freeze frames.
