The Historic Cathedral

The historic cathedral stands,
Surviving an earthquake,
A fire too,
Yet the western side is still lasting 900 years.

The historic cathedral looks,
Like a decorated, ancient wonderland,
Like a haunted death trap from outside
But a vibrant heaven from the inside.

The historic cathedral has,
Multiple carvings of majestic figures,
A fossil-full floor covering the cross-like building
And memories all the way back to 1072.

The historic cathedral remembers,
the horrendous time of WWII,
And being known as the tallest building
For an astonishing 200 years.

The historic cathedral listens,
To Big Tom,
Alarming the time
With a gentle song at the beginning.

The historic cathedral carries,
Precious memories
That will be treasured for eternity.

Long live the cathedral...
Lincoln Cathedral.

Lincoln Cathedral

The ancient cathedral is made of stone,
wood and metal for the doors.
Forests and quarries chopped and dug,
for the building to be historic.
The stone has fossils from years ago,
windows stand narrow and tall.

Looking down at the people,
is a evil monster.
The little monster is an Imp,
but a long time ago it turned to stone.
Because it did wrong,
to angels.

Rainbow windows stand tall,
when it's sunny it shines.
Years ago a cannon was shot,
some kind people put it back.

Lincon Cathedral’s Treasures

The historic cathedral has seen so much
From fire to earthquake to World War 2.
Remindes us of periods
Norman to Gothic.

The Lincoln Imp was turned to stone
After braking the windows and steeling the jewels.
The angel came down and casted a spell saying,
" naughty imp turn to stone."
The cathedral has stood on top of a hill like the mother of them all.

It is all made with limestone bricks.
It has fossils within the naves floor.
As big Tom chimes the hour,
People from Lincon know the hour.

The cathedral, Lincoln cathedral.

Lincoln Cathedral

The ancient cathedral remembers
the anguish that people have suffered.
It recollects the way it was rebuilt
with new designs to make it stronger.
It remembers when the windows
were painted to make beautiful
stained glass windows.

The ancient building is made of
fossil-containing Limestone.
It remembers the people of old
that would carve it.

The ancient cathedral likes,
how people would arrive and leave.
Interested, looking around
at the history of the ancient cathedral.

Geography.

Year 6 have found out Charles Darwin spent 5 years travelling on HMS Beagle. Today they have used maps, atlases and google maps to locate the countries and islands that he stopped at on his voyage. The children were amazed at some of the places he visited and they have all decided they want to travel when they are older.

Did Darwin spend more time in the Northern or Southern Hemisphere?

How many worms are under the ground?

This week, in science, Year 6 are investigating this question. Before they can do this, the children needed to find the best worm charming technique. The winning group managed to find 23 by using water and then stomping with their feet. Classification charts were then used to identify different species. Did you know there are 28 species of worm in the UK?
